The Truth About Pet Urine
Some pet spots are actually stains, and CANNOT be removed. The same goes for urine odor. With proper treatment, however, there is often remediation.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that if you flood the spots with water and suck it back up, the problem will disappear. Actually, flooding and extracting the spots is correct, BUT only when using a high quality pet enzyme and carpet cleaning solution – NOT water or a basic over-the-counter carpet cleaner.
Probably the largest determining factor in urine control is the depth of penetration. If the urine has hunkered down into the padding and/or sub floor, a clean carpet WILL NOT provide a clean and fresh smelling environment. Replacing the damaged pad and sub floor, followed by a thorough carpet cleaning will be your only solution, short of total flooring replacement.
